I download the Basic version of disk drill, run the deep scan on the external hard drive that was working since the erase, and low and behold there are my files (five years worth of .mov, .jpg, .wav, .mp4, .mpeg - I'm a sportscaster). I click preview on a bunch of files, and they work! Problem solved! I went to click 'Recover' and found that I needed to purchase the Pro verison of Disk Drill. "Heck, I saw it work! Worth it." Paid my money, clicked Recover, let the program do it's magic as it moved items to folders I set up on the hard drive of the Macbook Pro instead of the external hard drive (to be safe). I only did a portion since I have 200 GB of info to recover. After the recovery process finished, EVERY file recovered could not be open or read by any of the computer's programs. Quicktime could not open the .mov or .mp4 files I had previewed before purchasing the Pro version to save my files from forever being lost. Nothing was opening. Panic ensues. I try to recover the .jpg files (remember I was able to preview a bunch to be sure they were ok before buying Pro), and the same thing. The error messages bother me so much because it simply stated that these file formats were not compatible with the program that normally works with those files. And, now when I go back to Disk Drill and try to preview any of the files, NONE of them provide a preview now. Before purchasing Pro, Basic gave me previews for everything. Now, not the case.

I am in the middle of emails with someone at Cleverfiles (initiated last night, and they asked some canned questions.) An example I gave of my .mov files was greeted with a question of their size. These .mov files ranged anywhere from 5MB to over 2GB (from vacation video snippets to my full sports broadcasts). None of these files were "fragmented" prior to the data loss incident. I was able to preview them in Basic with no problems. That's what is really bothering me.

Please help. The last five years of my broadcasts, family pictures, and much more are in limbo, all of which are very important to me.]]>

I accidentally erased the disk using the apple disc utility.

I purchased Disk Drill from apple apps store to try to recover; Mostly interested in RAW image files using .nef for Nikon.

I ran Disk Drill and it did recovery some images, but only a small %, maybe 20%.

Could I recover any more by doing multiple passes?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.]]>

I was told by the repair center where I bought it, it was because I interrupted an installation update from Mac.
I left it to be serviced...they reinstalled the latest software and now it works like new.
Oh the horror.
When I turned it on there was no Photo Library. 2 years worth of images gone.
I have not used it since, in hopes of recovering some images.
My computer only had photos stored on it...no other files except for a few documents.
Im missing around 4,000 pics.
Any hope for me?]]>

I used DiskDrill to recover a Time Capsule HDD that was not working well, after the recovery I saw all my files and believed that everything worked perfect because I tried to open some recovered files and they were perfect, so I formatted the HDD again.

Now I get this disgusting surprise, can anybody tell me what happened here? Were the files damaged and unable to recover? If so, why DiskDrill would make me think all files were recovered?

Thanks

Recovering files with their original names. http://forum.cleverfiles.com/discussion/51/recovering-files-with-their-original-names. Fri, 14 Jan 2011 04:46:03 -0500 Ragunaru 51@/discussions
One of the partitions of one of my hard drives decided to stop working a half a year ago (something to do with a corrupted boot sector, I'd imagine). Not being able to do anything about the hard drive, I just let it be until I could. Which happened to be yesterday when I finally decided to give Disk Drill a try. Technically, all the files were there but since the boot sector was corrupted, it couldn't mount the partition.

After doing a 15h deep scan on the partition, it most likely found all the files. Why I say most likely is because I wouldn't know - none of the original file names were there, all the names seemed to be temporary names by Disk Drill.

So here's my question - would it be possible to recover the files with their original names? I can't imagine that it would be impossible, since the name should be just a part of the data. Or am I wrong here?

Or maybe there's even a better solution to get the files back in my situation? Since none of my files we're deleted or gone to begin with, I just couldn't mount the partition cause of the boot sector.

All help is very much appreciated and a huge thanks in advance!

Love your program, just a quick question. I've done a deep scan of an external drive which took 2.30 hours to complete. It then said it had found a lost partition and suggested i'd quick scan that to recover file names, paths etc. I proceeded to do this and now it's been quick scanning that lost partition for over 8 hours, i do see the number of files found going up so it seems to be doing what's needed. I'm just curious if it's normal that a quick scan takes +8 hours while the deep scan took 2.30 hours?]]>
No need for TimeMachine backup??? http://forum.cleverfiles.com/discussion/150/no-need-for-timemachine-backup Sun, 08 Apr 2012 09:56:13 -0400 Deckard 150@/discussions Sorry if it seems a stupid question. I am trying disk drill and still don“t fully understand the program. If I get it right, the use of Disk Drill would make TimeMachine backups unnecessary? I have been using an external 2TB drive to make backups till now... Slow but effective. Can someone give me a hint on this please?

Thanks a lot..]]>

New user, deleted files on Mac Book Pro http://forum.cleverfiles.com/discussion/149/new-user-deleted-files-on-mac-book-pro- Wed, 28 Mar 2012 02:31:26 -0400 klonkie 149@/discussions Newbie here. Daughter finished uni honours, put all uni stuff on external HD, deleted originals on Mac Book. Nephew came along with some movies and put it on wrong HD (we have two that look same), the HD couldn't read off PC so he re-formated. Dad in big trouble because its now his fault to sort out.
Ok, should I
a) Download Free version then quick scan MacBook and see what can be recovered then upgrade to pro and recover
b.) Go straight to pro version and deep scan formatted HD and see if that can be recovered first before messing around with MacBook
c) Go straight to pro and deep scan MacBook.

I obviously want to do it in an order whereby I minimise risk of stuffing things up further.

Scanning files Stopped http://forum.cleverfiles.com/discussion/132/scanning-files-stopped- Tue, 20 Dec 2011 18:55:37 -0500 kaagency 132@/discussions Running a Deep Scan right now on a 1T WD Harddrive. I place a tun of files on it yesterday, and most of them just vanished. It has currently scanned 24% and there is approx. 7 hours left on the scan. The problem is, for instance, when I was at 10%, the files recovered were showing up real time at a crazy fast speed, ex. it found 3,169 photos...but this number has not budged in the past 2 hours!

I thought it was because I was using the Basic version - so I went ahead an payed for the Pro. But nothing has changed.
Could somebody please help me out, or let me know what could be happening.
Thanks!

iTunes - Original files names http://forum.cleverfiles.com/discussion/131/itunes-original-files-names Sat, 17 Dec 2011 13:45:52 -0500 dcgrayjr 131@/discussions
Realizing I needed the Pro version to perform the actual recovery I purchased a license and performed a recovery to some of the files (not all at once, Mp3 first). Importing these files (4,300) into iTunes crashed the application, then I started importing a few hundred at a time BUT only some of the song length would play, and a number of them did not include original file names ending up importing the nomenclature of "file0004007".

Hmm, I'm wondering why I even purchased the Pro license if it's not delivering what the preview alludes you to. Any ideas? Maybe I should start a new scan (Quick vs. Deep)?]]>
